Breeding Philosophy at Garcitas Creek

Breed equally for: conformation, disposition, trainability, and type; but each must meet the breed standard.

Strive for an Aussie of usable disposition, plus quality. Neither is good without the other. When forced to make a choice, keep the usable disposition.

Breed toward the ideal Australian Shepherd. Not to be swayed by the voices of others.

Do my homework, in time others will appreciate the accomplishments.

Consider each attribute before considering the negatives.  All have both, then determine how positive the good qualities are before dwelling on the negatives qualities

Follow the lead your Aussies set for you. The next generation may need not be similar to the generation before, but each generation must be consistent in overall quality.

It is not difficult to improve a poor quality bitch in one generation.  It is not even difficult to improve an average bitch in one generation. The difficulty is to improve an exceptional bitch.

Not to be afraid to appreciate the quality of other’s Aussies.  Breeding is a competition with yourself, not with others.

Look forward to and recognize the surprises that may occur.
